History of Truk.tk
I have been doing html for the last 6 years. I can't say that it's ever been a real priority in life, but I use it to entertain myself and learn, so I figured I'd give a little history of the site.
I had my first site in March of 2000, using an ad-powered free host that made site names from constellations and usernames. I remember I was Scorpio, but not much more. I was forced to find an html class online when I couldn't get the page creator to do what I wanted it to (this is often how I learn stuff). I kept that page throughout the summer, but I abandoned it as the start of school came in the fall.
I started another site in the winter of 2002 to keep from being overcome by boredom. This site bounced between free hosts before I came across hostultra. I still have my hostultra account. Mid-summer 2003 I found dot.tk, which I lost from lack of traffic four months later. I slacked off updating the site and it started gaining popups like cobwebs.
Even though it took 5 minutes to load, I started it back up in 2004. I had a new site design and I had been learning to write small programs and make GIFs. I kept the site through mid 2005, again losing my truk.tk domain.
I decided to try something else to help get traffic. I joined piczo.com, as I had seen an ad in my photobucket account. I didn't have it for long. I didn't like it's limited capacity for files, javascript, and html code.
I went to designing the hub, an alright design, but it required java to work right. I kept working on it for quite a while, but it became too complex and had no content or a good server, as it intermingled from hostultra to piczo.
Last August, 2006, I went to check the domain in a point of boredom and noticed truk.tk was open. With an early version of Gaim Autorun I went looking for a new host. I stumbled across 501megs.com. It seemed to be still running, but pretty much abandoned. It also had an ad. I quickly found freewebtown.com. With no ads and plenty of space I went at designing the hub's replacement.
Towards the end of April 2007 I decided I wanted more FrontPage compatibility, so I have now switched to freehostia (again no forced ads). Here we are today, hoping to get Conditional Autorun to replace Gaim Autorun.
You have been sufficiently bored. Go home.
